Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up. ~Pablo Picasso
Arts and crafts were a big part of Aiden’s toddlerhood. With Juliet… not so much. But, I’m trying to change that. With Aiden, I simply had more time and energy to think up projects and the desire to clean up just one more mess. These days, I’ve grown lax with Juliet. That’s just par for the course with the second child, right? Like having a baby book that has all of 5 pages filled out after 2+ years and the cover photo is still the sample image sold with the book. I can’t blame it all on time though. I mean really, there’s time to fool about on facebook or watch 47 back to back episodes of Dexter or my new obsession, House. There’s always time, if we choose to spend it where it’s important. That’s one of my many goals this year: to better manage my time and energy. Unfortunately, I seem to thrive at last minute projects. The more I put them off, the better it feels when they are done. The sense of accomplishment seems much more gratifying when I’ve attacked a project that’s been stuck at the bottom of the to-do list. And so, here’s to getting it right this year: more time invested in the people that make my life worth living – more colorful cold days spent at the kitchen table – more art – more projects, and yes, inevitably more messes to clean, but ultimately, more invaluable moments spent, memories made and priceless works of art created.
