Pulling deep rich color from an otherwise dull straight out of camera photo is a pretty easy process when you use the given layers inside the action Spicy from the Botanical Blends Collection. In the video below, I’ll show you step-by-step how to utilize and customize the layers inside of Spicy to intensify color. I also used Buttery Blur to give a creamy smooth feel to the photo. Finishing the photo out, I’ll use the tone Cinnamon to draw out the deep blues, greens and rust colors from the photo, and then top it with a very slight softening haze with Willow. This edit from start to finish would take about 2-3 minutes to complete and only took 4 actions from the Botanical Blends.
As I mention in the video, I often play actions like Spicy or even Bland to Brilliant from the Creative HeART Collection to do a complete edit. All the necessary layers are included in such actions to boost contrast, lighten, darken, sharpen and more. Just add in a favorite tone or two and you’re done! Open up the actions Spicy, Bamboo, Dull to Dazzling, Lavish, or Bland to Brilliant and familiarize yourself with the built-in layers. You might be surprised what all you can achieve when you customize one single action.
The way the colors and contrast are displayed on the YouTube video seem too intense and do not accurately reflect the true depth of color and contrast. The image above is a better representation of the final edit.
