If you’re anything like me, you learn editing techniques best by watching. That’s the reason I put together these video tutorials. They are a view into my editing workflow and a service to my action customers to show them how I use my own actions to edit photos from start to finish. In these two videos, you’ll see how I accomplish a general “light drama” portrait edit.
In the first video, I’ll show you how to plump lips, clean up uneven lipstick lines and give lips a sumptuous color. In the second video, I’ll finish out the edit by demonstrating my techniques on how to retouch skin, remove blemishes, freckles and moles, and smooth skin using my favorite skin action: Flawless Face. Two of my favorite go-to actions for making skin tones soft and creamy are Euphoria & Radiance. Learn how I customize and combine these actions for peachy, lovely skin. (I actually use both of these actions on darker skin complexions as well). Next, I’ll tackle the eyes, making them more dramatic and gorgeous with Sparkle, Eye-citement, DIY Light & DIY Dark. I’ll show you how to transform the background color with a simple color tone action from the Botanical Blends Collection. You’ll learn how to use the Michelle Kane actions to build your edits easily, layer by layer. You’ll notice that I don’t flatten as I go along. While this does increase the file size while you’re working, it also allows you to go back and easily make changes to your edit. It gives you maximum flexibility with your editing.
People often ask me if they could only purchase one action collection, where should they start? My answer is generally the HeARTy Bundle. This is, and will always be the foundation to my edits. These are the bedrock actions that any photo editor can count on for virtually any look. As you can deduce from most of my photo editing videos and blueprints, I find the HeARTy actions indispensable and I know you will too.
The Photoshop script you see me using in the videos to quickly access my actions is called ActionFire. I love it and highly recommend it!
