Getting back on track with this fun photography experiment aptly called the photo exchange. {{ read more about the exchange here see the first exchange here. }} I’m teaming up with photographers from around the world to exchange images to edit. We swap photos, edit them and then show the before and afters on our blogs. It’s pretty eye opening at times to see what others will create with your image. They may take it in a completely different direction than you had envisioned. Editing styles vary widely from artist to artist and I not only do I love to see SOOC images (straight out of camera… for all you non-photograpy minded readers), before and afters, but new and differing styles.

This time I took part in the exchange with Alexandra from Alex Beadon Photography located in the Surrey  / London /  Worcestershire, England area. Be sure to check out her site and see all the wonderful sites she visits and the interesting and artistic images she takes of the most beautifully random things. Her creative eye is quite inspiring. She is one of those photographers that just “sees” things in the everyday. These exchanges are so much fun, here’s what we came up with:

My edit of her image:

Alex Beadon Photography- Photo exchange-Michelle's edit

Alex Beadon Photography- Photo exchange

Alex’s edit of my image:

michelle kane photography-photo exhange-alex's edit

michelle kane photography-photo exhange-sooc

If you are interesting in taking part in the photo exchange, please leave a comment below and I will contact you. I will be setting up exchanges with various photographers (so the exchange will not always be with me). Rules are as follows:

• If the exchange takes place between two different photographers, not including myself, you are required to submit your blog images to me to post here on my blog. Essentially, it will be a great way to get featured through my site.

• You must post the before and afters on your blog.

• You must properly credit the other photographer and are required to link to the other photographer’s site.

• You are not permitted to sell the other photographer’s edited image without prior written consent.

• Try to keep your SOOC and edited images to around 5-6 MB for easy emailing.

That’s it! Fun, different, inspiring. The goal is to broaden our horizons as artist and network with others that we might not normally have the opportunity to chat with. Don’t stress if you are not a world-class photographer and your editing style is still developing. We all started somewhere and in reality, we are all continually developing and evolving as artists. Join the exchange and see how inspiring it really is!

MarikaNovember 18, 2009 - 3:37 pm

Those are fun to look at! It is interesting to see how someone else processes your images…. I am getting anxious to see some of ours! : )

MichelleNovember 18, 2009 - 2:45 pm

Re: Michelle’s comment: It’s completely up to the participating photographers how much of the specifics of their editing process they want to divulge. You can keep a log of your processing (there’s also a preference in PS that will log every thing you do to a text file) so you can share exactly what you did, if you so choose.

MissyNovember 18, 2009 - 2:36 pm

Just beginning this new venture into photography. I’d love to give this a try.

michelleNovember 18, 2009 - 2:19 pm

Would love to take part. Both images turned out beautifully. Do they show the process of they edited the original image once they return it to you?

SeanNovember 18, 2009 - 2:11 pm

I KNEW it! I love your post-processing, Michelle, always have. Pretty darn beautiful straight out of the camera too! Neat concept :)
